This Privacy Policy applies to the Earthquake Tracker mobile application. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting any information handled through your use of the app.

1. Location Data Collection & Usage

When you enable location features in the app, we request permission to access your device's geographical position (latitude and longitude).

• Purpose: Your location is used strictly to calculate the distance between your device and seismic event epicenters, display nearby earthquakes, and trigger local safety alerts (it will be implemented on a future update).
• No Tracking: We do not track your continuous location in the background or store location history.

2. Data Storage and Sharing

We believe in absolute data privacy:

• Zero Database Storage: Your location coordinates are processed on demand locally on your device or via transient parameters sent to the public USGS API.
• No Third-Party Sharing: We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal data or location metrics with any advertisers, external databases, or third parties.

3. External Services

The app fetches public geological data from the official United States Geological Survey (USGS) API. Queries sent to the USGS API contain basic filter parameters (e.g., magnitude thresholds, date ranges, or distance parameters) required to fetch seismic data.

4. Permissions

The app may request the following device permissions:

• ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION: Used strictly to calculate local earthquake distances when enabled.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Used to display local emergency alerts for nearby seismic events (it will be implemented on a future update).

5. Children's Privacy

Our app does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted directly on this page.
